    Hello Sony Gurus,

I have SMV HD Platinum 10 and have several problems with rendering it in HD to save it in my hard drive. I have read through the forum but can not find the answere to my questions. My render setting is HD 1080X24p. I used Sony XDR-550V camcorder. Please help me if you can on the folowwing problems. I’m a so a new at this. Please keep it simple for me.

1> It took about 36 hours to render about 60% of a 2hours movie clip and used up 300GB. Then I get a message “file does not have enought memory”. I have tried to render a smaller clip,45 min, the same thing happen. My hard drive has a bout 350 GB left.
2> When I changed the setting back to NTCSwidescreen then it work fine. It’s used up about 17GB. Play back quality on computer is a little soft.
3> Does rendering in HD take that long and that much memory?

I would love to save these clips in HD. Thank you so much in advance for any advices.

What render type and template are you using to render in HD?

What is your target device for playback?

What settings were you using to render your video? It sounds like you have selected one of the codecs or presets under the AVI format that are not suitable for HD work. The “NTSC DV” presets will only give you standard definition output.

Try rendering using one of the “Internet” presets under the “Sony AVC” type. There isn’t a preset for 24p but you can manually change to 24fps if you really want. However, your camera probably records 60p so the “Internet 30p” presets will probably work best.

EDIT: looks like John just beat me to the question…

My project propertties are: Template=HDV-720-30p(1280X720,29.970fps). The clips is about 45 min.

For “make movie” render setting are: FORMAT= Video for window(*avi), TEMPLATE = HD1080-24p YUV(This is were the problem occured) but when I use The NTSC DV widescreen then it work(STD def).

My media property is MPEC 2.

Most of my media clips came from Sony HDR-XR550 (1920X1080).
1> What should my setting be for this type of media?
    Project properties setting?
2> What should my setting be when rendering this to make movie in HD?

    Thanks You!!

There’s your problem right there. Sony YUV produces incredibly large files because it’s a lossless format. Try using Sony AVC with the Internet 720-30p template. That will produce very high quality video with relatively small file sizes.

Thank you so much!! I got it working now. One more question, if I may.. If my clips is in SD, can I use the same setting to covert it to HD?

[Trung Dao] “If my clips is in SD, can I use the same setting to covert it to HD?”

Yes, but they make look a bit blurry next to “real” HD because they just don’t have as much information in them.

Thank you John! My HD clips are redering fine with your recommended setting. However when I try to use the INTERNET 1920 x 1080 – 30 P, it crashed every time when it’s about 90% completion. Is there any advantage to use this higher setting or I should stick with 720X30p? These are my kids home movie clips so I want to resever it in the hight quality as posible. Thank You so much for yuor information!
