  • Virtual Clips in FCP4.5?

when i used to work in premiere, i could make a virtual clip out of an edited sequence of clips. i’d then be able to apply motion effects to that virtual clip for picture-in-picture & split screen stuff. it saved a lot of time.

i’m sure fcp has this capacity. i’m just not sure where to start. any help would be much appreciated. many thanks in advance.

It is called nesting in FCP.

Highlight the section of the timeline you want to nest.

    Option-C. Or Sequence > Nest Item(s)…

It will ask you to name the nest. This will show up as a sequence in your browser (so you can edit the contents of the nest.)

If you want to apply filters or modify the motion parameters of a nest, Option double click it to load it into the Viewer. The regular double click you would use to load a clip into the viewer, loads the nest as a sequence into the timelime when you double click a nest.
