Viper cinema tools workflow question
Hi everyone, I just started a new show that is shooting on Viper for a film finish. Dailies are being transfered to DVCAM for offline editing. I am importing the ALE files from the transfer house, batch capturing and applying a pulldown removal to restore the footage to 24fps for cutting.
Because there are multiple camera tapes on each dailies reel, the lab is striping all the dailies tapes starting at 1hr, so the camera original TC will never be anywhere near the dailies video TC.
I had thought this wouldn’t be an issue: in the ALE file, there is a column, “Aux TC 24” which corresponds to the camera original timecode. The hope I had was that cinema tools would read this information and use it to match back to our footage and the proper timecode when we do our online conform. Sadly, it appears to not recognize this information (using FCP 5.1).
So what we’re facing now is the situation of manually modifying the TC for every clip after we do the pulldown removal to match the visual burn in of the original Viper TC.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get cinema tools to read the “AUX TC 24” track? Maybe in FCP6? Is there another possible workflow I’m missing that would ensure a faster dailies processs? Capturing straight from the HD masters is not an option because of the color LUT we need to apply to the footage.
Hope I explained this clearly, and apologies if this is an incoherent ramble 🙂 Thanks in advance,
Matt
