i wanted to set a movie as my background. (not affected by the camera and/or lights). with the “background-object” i just managed to set a still frame but not a movie.

…it’s because i’m trying out some match-moving stuff for the first time.

any help would be greatly apprechiated.

Did you put the movie file in the material’s color channel? If not try that. Also you have to set the material to preview animation if you want to see it move in the viewport.

thanx for the reply adam – but nope – still doesn’t seem to work.
does it have to be a certain file format maybe? with a jpg sequence i can’t seem to be able to import it as a sequence. all other formats – mpeg4 for instance – turns the material black and doesn’t show in the viewport.

I’m not sure what all the supported formats are. I’ve used .jpg, .tif, .psd sequences, .mov files, and various flavors of .avi.

Did you set up the animation parameters in the material? If not, you do that by clicking on the file name in the attributes manager. Once you do that you’ll see an animation tab at the top where you set the start/end, frame rate, etc. Don’t forget to hit the calculate button.

    thanx again adam

the calculate button was the culprit. (although i found out that mpeg4 indeed doesn’t seem to work – so i ended up using a jpg-sequence).

Hi, I don’t know if it will be helpful but, to animated a background in Cinema4, you have to put a film sequence or the first image of a image sequence (in png, jpeg…) in the Color chanel. When C4D ask you if you want to import the image say “no” !
Then, you click to the little image (under texture) and you click on calculate and c4d will put the first frame and the last frame alone !
Put the material in the background objet and play the time line !

Your background will be transfomed in a movie sequence.

    That’s all !

    See you soon,

    Hi (re)

Also, you have to put a ground (a plane or the ground) and use the same material than background.
Instead of to let uvw, you put frontal.
You add the render tag in the ground object and in the tag you check compose with the background (I don’t know the exactly term cause my C4D is in french) and uncheck “proper shadows” (it’s above compose with the background).

    That’s all !

    See you soon,
