Viewing height is half of what it should be
When I open an AVI HD file with Windows Media Player. The video looks fine. Just like it is suppose to. When putting it on Vegas 8 timeline, the visual is squashed down to the bottom half of the viewing area. The width of the viewing area is as it should be. I have tried various templates in the project properties window but the height remains one half of what is should be.
I’m at a loss as what to do. -

Where did you get an AVI HD file? What codec does it use? When you drop it on the timeline, check the event properties on the media tab and see what dimensions Vegas thinks the media is. Does it match the real media? (my guess is it doesn’t)

Mr. Rofrano, sorry I haven’t replied until now. Hopefully, the following will help find a solution:
I digitalize 8mm and Super 8mm film. The setup is being converted to HD and away from SD since that is the trend people want. I have an HD Canon camcorder pointed at the film gate of a projector. The projector has been altered by a company called MovieStuff (https://www.moviestuff.tv). In summary, the HD camcorder, projector, and special computer with software captures each frame as a Motion JPEG. The Motion JPEGs are time adjusted so that movement by people in the video is natural and not too fast nor too slow. When I was using the Canon GL-2 for Standard Definition, there was not a problem. Now, as mentioned before, the video is one half the height of what it should be but the length is correct. So everything is the video looks as though someone “squashed” it down.
The codec used for this was Mainconcept 2.4.16
After dropping the video on the time and right-clicking, Properties window pops up. Stream Properties are: Format: Sony Motion JPEG Attributes: 1920x1080x24 Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000
File properties of the video are: 1920×1080
Again, I am at a loss as to what to do. Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike, I would contact MovieStuff and ask them what’s going on. If your camera is HD and Vegas is seeing the video as 1920×1080, then the projector must be what’s squeezing the image. Since the video is Motion JPEG and I don’t know of any HD camera that shoots MJPEG, I assume that there is software involved that is converting what the HD camera sees into MJPEG. This is why I say you need to contact MovieStuff. There is too much of their stuff involved for anyone else to debug this.

Hello Mr. Refrano, I have contacted MovieStuff and was informed that since the video looks and plays correctly in Windows Media Player, it is probably that Sony Vegas is “seeing” this a rectangular pixels instead of square. I’ll keep scratching my bald head to try to come up with a solution. Anyway, thank for your time and input. It is truly appreciated.

Rectangular pixels would not behave this way. Rectangular pixels would squish the image so that everything was taller and thinner but all 1080 lines would still be seen. You said the image was squished to the bottom.
Can you post a screen shot of what you see in Windows Media Player and what you see in the Vegas Preview so we can see what it looks like?
