I am wondering if there is a way that I can watch my HD video from my timeline without having to do a render all every time I drag a new clip to the timeline. I asked someone before and they said convert my clips to ProRes LT, which I did do, but still if I drag a clip to the timeline it needs to be rendered in order to watch. On short videos this is no big deal, but the video I am working on is over an hour long so the preview renders take forever. Any Suggestion?

What version of FCP do you have?
Does FCP ask you to change sequence settings to best match footage?
When your settings are correct – there is NO NEED to render a video track to playback.

    What are you video settings?

Thanks for the response but I figured it out, had to get the sequence set right like you thought.

    Thanks again!
