  • Viewing files with timecode

Posted by John Mcrae on July 1, 2010 at 2:08 am

    Hi
I’m new to FCP. I have inherited a project shot with a pmw ex3 and all the files are loaded into fcp and wiped from the cards. I’d like to provide the unedited footage to the client with original timecode. Ideally I want to just provide the files in some form where she can view on her pc but I doubt this is possible. If it can be achieved what software/codecs would she require? What would I need to do to make the timecode visible?
Alternatively do I just have to print out to tape ( with the original timecode viewable.) Again what would I have to do to achieve that?
    Thanks

Very possible. Use Compressor and use a QT 6 or 7 setting. PCs have QT. This will encode to H.264. In the INSPECTOR there is a setting for TIMECODE. Turn that on, change the color and size and position and then compress.

    Thanks Shane.
Easy to follow. The clip has timecode displayed.
Is there any way of displaying the ORIGINAL timecode? I am currently reading new code beginning 00.00 at atart of clip

If you use the TIMECODE READER, then it will read the orginal TC…source TC.
