I had a computer geek over yesterday to help me with some networking stuff, and while he was here I posed this to him: When navigating in Windows Explorer, ALL I want to “View”– throughout my entire file system— is “List” plus “Details”. I don’t want icons or thumbnails just taking up space in my window so I have to scroll everywhere. And, I definitely want to see file extensions and file sizes.

He said Windows7 “doesn’t let you do it”, but I’m finding that hard to believe so I thought I’d ask you geniuses. WindowsXP used to have “Apply to all folders”, but is it really true that you can’t do the same with Windows7? It feels like most of my file navigating is spent “un-viewing” icons and thumbnails…

I think it’s time to find a new “geek”. Right-click on any folder and select Properties and then go to the Customize tab, and change anything you did in XP and check [x] Also apply this template to all subfolders. You can also go to Control Panel | Folder Options or click Start and type “folder options” in the search field.

Okay, thanks John! I thought I did that but I’ll check it again.

    And, I’ll look into a different geek…
