Videos “jerking” in timeline and, after rendering
Hi,
I have been editing a 10 minute video project with video clips from a
Flip video camera.The clips are progressive scan avi’s at 640 x 480 30 fps with a Divx Codec.
The clips in the timeline seem to have a pulsating jerk, or jump throughout. I was hoping it was just the timeline playback, but this still happens after I render them in wmv or avi.
When I first started the project, I didn’t notice it until I was a few hours into editing.I tried the whole project again after defragging my hard drive, but the same thing happens.
I’ve tried switching the field order on each clip to “lower field first” from progressive scan, but that doesn’t work.
My computer is a Dell Intel Core II 1.8 Ghz, 2 GB Ram ATI Mobility Radeon x1400, 120 GB Hard Drive with 36 GB available.

From what you have written it seems that the original clip

Hi,
The clip plays perfectly fine when played separately in windows
media player.LJ

Have you tried changing the frame rate to see if that
made a difference ?
Or are you adding the video to a (23.97 fps timeline)?
The jerks maybe frame rate related.Steve Rhoden

Vegas doesn’t like DivX. You need to convert your video into another format (e.g., DV, Motion-JPG, Huffyuv, etc.) to be able to edit and render in Vegas.

Hmmmm. I was wondering about the codec.
I guess the best bet is to batch convert the files before I ship’em to vegas.

Hi Steve,
The framerate was set at 29.97.
I think the problem might be the divx codec as mentioned in
a post below.Thanks again for you help.

I tried a new edit with the same media that I have been
using on the other project, but set the “project settings” template a different way.
On the right side of the “template window” there is a
“match media settings” box, which I clicked to match the media that I’m using with the project.I put together a 1 1/2 minute timeline and then rendered to a wmv,
and it came out great,however, when I went back to work more on the project, I noticed some
glitching, that seems to slowly happen more as I progress into the
project, so I’m going to look into converting the media first to a different codec from Divx and see if that makes a difference – just not to crazy about batch converting 20 gigs of media if that’s the solution. -
I had this same problem and nearly went mad, as more and more glitches like the ones you describe kept popping up in my projects as I worked on them. It’s definitely related to the compression codec that Flip Video uses. I updated the software via their site today (9/29/09), and this update installs an updated version of the codec which, oh so mercifully, seems to have completely solved the glitch problem for me.
