  • Videos are coming out anamorphic widescreen, how do I change that?

I output my video at 720×480 and uploaded it to blip.tv. Upon viewing it on their site I noticed it was zoomed to a 4:3 aspect ration. I emailed them about it and they said that was happening because the video was anamorphic widescreen, and that I should make it just regular widescreen instead.

I hunted for some kind of setting that I must have set somewhere to make it anamorphic but I can’t find it for the life of me. How do I turn that off?

In this context, the term “anamorphic” is used to mean “non-square pixels”. You need to render to square pixels for any web video. To do this, multiply 720 by the Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of your video and then render to that dimension using square pixels.

For example: If you are using NTSC DV Widescreen the PAR is 1.2121. If you multiple 720 by 1.2121 you get 873 (872.7 rounded up). This means that you should render your video with the dimensions 873×480 PAR 1.000.
