Have Sony Vegas 4.0e on HP Pavilion 2.53Ghz 512DDR, Integrated intel Extreme Graphics 64M, Realtec AC97 sound card. Capturing to Maxtor 250G 7500rpm extHDD.
Captured with the video8 (Sanyo) before, via a Belkin Hi Speed DVD creator A/D converter, sound direct into aux stereo line in. Suffered only minimal latency type out of sync, about 200ms, easily corrected by unlocking groups and shifting audio or video. Went to DV camera last year and capturing perfect A/V since then. Were given a Sony Video8 by a friend who has hours (and hours) of tapes and wants them digitised, and/or made into DVD’s. Found after an hours capture it was wildly out of sync, to the tune of at least 6 minutes. This is non linear, ie., line up one end, the other is out. Line up the middle, the ends are out. Tried remembering all settings from before and sure they are correct. Is this a H/W fault with the system etc, or Vegas? Can I somehow compress the sound, or expand the video, to line all along the tracks? It seems I have about 6 minutes too much sound, though each end lines up fine.
    Thanks……………phaedrus

How are you capturing the Video8? Instead of trying to correct the bad capture, I’d be looking as to why it did not capture correctly at the beginning.

Usually hardware that digitize video and adudio with different
    clocks have this issue.

If that hardware supports directx capture, you could use
virtualvcr (I mentioned it here before).
Related to AV sync read this:
    https://virtualvcr.sourceforge.net/html/virtualvcr/sync.php

    :))

    Hope, I could help.

Am capturing as I was originally with the Video8 before I went DV, as described in my question, with the USB A/D conerter and audio into aux stereo in. Would very much like to correct before the event takes place rather than post editing, which was why I was asking. Is it a function of some setting I’m missing that was in place before I was DV capturing, but now has changed? I found a temporary and just acceptable fix (if there is such a thing) by removing the lock on group events, via IGNORE EVENT GROUPING toggle, and shifting the whole audio envelope holding the CTRL key. If the start of the capture is in sync, and I move the audio envelope till the end is in sync all seems ok, though the middle area can drift out of sync by a second or so. It appears the time coding for A and V use different timebases, so how can I lock them? Another fix I have found is splitting the hour or more capture event into smaller groups, tedious and shouldn’t be necessary, but everything is pretty well in sync and easier to correct
Thanks, I’m losing what hair I have left!!
