First apologies if this is not the correct place to put this;-

A couple of weeks ago Mike Hinkel asked about how to create a Tic Tac Toe video wall – so that he could cascade the items down. I have used Excalibur and I like the fact that it can create a video wall from existing video – however it lacked the ability (in my opinion) to insert a checkboard effect (e.g. black or white – or any colour) on alternate “squares” – insert an image as the alternate squares etc. Plus it relied on having video already on your timeline.

I therefore have been writing a script which would allow the user to create a video wall – have a parent track to which the wall is associated – select either an image or a Solid Color as the checkboard effect and then select video as the other “squares”.

It’s free and I would appreciate any feedback to improve it;-

Save this and then insert it into your ScriptMenu folder – under where you have vegas installed (typcially c:\program files\sony\vegas pro XXX)

Where XXX is either 8.0 or 9.0 – I have tested this on both 32 bit (version 8 and 64bit Version 9).

Then restart (or start) Vegas and then find the Script under Tools/Scripting/TicTacToe.

I’ll put a follow up post about how to use it…

    Mark.

    Here is an example Video

*Note that the Images are 5 seconds long

Then Open up the Tic Tac Toe script

By default this will create a 3 row 3 colum wall. The blue squares represent the solid chosen color, V is where the video will be created – you can choose from the preset list on the right hand drop down – under Checkboard Choices.
Also by default – we will ADD to the current timeline and ADD a parent track so that you can use TRACK MOTION on the WHOLE wall.

Clicking the INVERSE VIDEO button will alternate whether we start with a SOLID color or a VIDEO track

If you choose to use an IMAGE as the alternate item – you will be promoted to select an IMAGE – this will add the image to the PROJECT MEDIA (if it’s not already present). Note that the display will change to show the IMAGE.

If you select ALL VIDEO note that Every track will be created as a VIDEO

You can change the number of ROWS and COLUMS – note you need to click UPDATE to show this change (all other changes will be reflected immediately EXCEPT this one).

    Example of choosing 5×5.

If you choose to insert videos – it will use the EVENTS from the SELECTED VIDEO tracks. If you do this then ALL NEW TRACKS will be set at the TIME of the SHORTEST Event. If you DON’T select videos from an existing track OR no track currently exists then you can specify the length of the IMAGE or SOLID tracks (e.g 4.5 = 4.5 seconds) 1 = 1 second, 1:00:00 = 1 minute….

After clicking GO on a 3×3 video wall – note that the original track is now MUTED – we have one parent track and then 9 child tracks

    Enjoy…

That looks great. I’m going to give it a try. Love to know more about scripts too.

    Hi,

I just updated this to run on Vegas 11.0

    The link is

    https://www.mgreenwood.com.au/upload/videowall/tictactoe.dll

The old version which works in Vegas 8.0 and Vegas 9.0 can be found at

    https://www.mgreenwood.com.au/upload/videowall/TicTacToeOld.dll

Note that the new version will also work in Vegas Pro 10 – I think as the Scripting hasn’t changes since version 10.b.

Any issues please let me know…

    Mark.

That’s very strange – this happened when I tried to install the original version but works fine with the new one.

I’ve renamed the file TicTacToe2.dll – please copy this to the script menu folder – rescan (or restart vegas) and try that – the only thing I can think of is that it’s cached the old version for some reason?

Its’s possible to work this tool with SVPO 12?

I’ll have to see – hopefully it’s a simple as recompiling against the Sony Vegas Pro 12 SDK (DLL file) – but if it’s more complex – might take me a while – I’ll have a play in the next couple of days and if successful will post a new link to it
