Video to Monitor Is Awful
This is an odd problem I’m hoping someone else has encountered because I can’t figure it out. I have a brand new Dell M6400 (core 2 duo/4mb ram/Vista Business 32 bit) with an nVidia quadro 3700m GPU. This should provide killer video quality out to a monitor from CS3, right? But the video is soft and the edges are severely stair-stepped. This is with either vga or hdmi connection.
I’ve tried both a 720p TV/Video monitor and a 1650 x 1080 computer monitor and they both look the same. The video format I’m using is DV 720×480. I hook up the same TV monitor to my other system and the output is superb. The GPU in that system is a Matrox card but the video out card is a Black Magic Intensity Pro.
When I drag anything else over to the second monitor it looks awesome. It’s only when the video comes out of CS3 that it stinks. Any ideas?

The problem with graphics card is that they do a very bad job as scaling, that’s one of the reasons AJA and others are around, and cost much more.
Add to that non-square pixel aspect ratio conversion, possible monitor scaling and you’ve got a mess.
Also, are your playback settings set to highest?

That’s what I find odd. This is the most expensive GPU I’ve ever purchased. It’s worth five of the Intensity Pro’s and the output from web browsers, photo viewers and Win Media Player is superb. It’s only in combination with CS3’s output that it turns to jaggy-edged mush.
