I am attempting to place clips of video into the individual squares of a large desk calendar. As the page flips to the next month I want the clips to act as if they are actually in the squares. And then you see the clips on the following page as they are revealed.

What is the best way to get this started? I can size them down and 3D them into position but the page flip is the part that is giving me trouble.

    I am on 6.5.

    Thanks

The entire page should be a composition, so you might need to precompose the layers containing the pictures. 3D not necessary.

Drag that comp into your main comp, then apply the CC Page Turn transition effect to that layer.

There should also be a Page Turn tutorial on the COW.

Okay I’ll try that. I have been attempting to use the motion tracker but 1) I don’t think that will work, 2) I don’t think I have near enough AE knowledge to muddle through that effect and 3) man is that a lot of keyframes.

I’ll try your suggestion and get back on the results.

    Thanks

After reading your post again I think that I may not have been clear with my intentions.

I shot a desk calendar and then flipped throuhg the pages slowly. This will be my main layer. I then want to take some additional clips of video and place them in each of the squares of the Sundays on that calendar. The additional clips then need to act as one with the calendar.

So placing the clips on the calendar and them making a pre-comp, then doing a page-turn will not work becasue the pages in the video are already being flipped manualy.

What about shooting the individual calendar pages (without flipping), placing the additional clips on that page and then making a pre-comp to put the page-turn on? That might work if I can make it look like the actual calendar pages are being turned.

    What do you think?

Yeah, that might work: if you’re starting out from digital photographs, then the endresult will look pretty nice and realistic. Much better than when you created the whole thing as a very clean graphic in Illustrator or Photoshop.

Otherwise, you might use a corner-pin effect and track the 4 corners of the sunday-block. Problem is that the lines between the corners of the video will not bend.

That is the issue that I am having trouble with. The bottom block will need to bend or look like it is. The blocks further up will be shielded by the paper and thus just need to be wiped off. I thought about using a mask in some way to do the bottom block but the block bends and that won’t work unless I turn the page just right.

I am going to shoot it a few more times tomorrow and see if I can get one that will work. If not I may need to try something different.

    Any other thoughts?

I may have missed something, but could you scan the pages of the calendar and then just use the CC page Turn effect on them. Thjis would make your life a lot easier.

All you’d have to do is set up each page with video the way you want it to look, and then precomp it so you could curl everything on the page together.

Not really. I want the hands to be visible in the turning of the calendar pages. If I have to I will go to something like that but the hands turning the pages is important to the storyboard.
