Hi, im new to premiere pro and video editing in general so sorry if this is dense but here is my problem:

I have imported a series of MPG files and they play fine in the mini project window and on an external player, but when i transfer them to the timeline window, the audio stays fine but the video jumps around a lot. At first i thought this must be a hardware problem or something but found that when i exported the final sequence, it still jumped in an external player.

I looked for similar posts but couldnt see quite the same thing. Does the ‘average data rate’ of the file have anything to do with it?

    thanks in advance

Premiere Pro is really not good at editing already compressed files, especially Mpeg. Your preview problem is common. Suggest rendering previews (Enter) first if you plan to do more than just cut the stuff up.
