I have a double dotted-line around the outside of my video preview screen. How do I get rid of that? Also, how do I change my layout?

    Thanks!

Those dashed borders you’re seeing on the preview window are the “Safe Area” indicators. They show the (estimated) part of the frame that you will see on a typical TV screen. TV’s tend to chop off the outer edges of the picture due to overscan – the TV slightly enlarges the picture to ensure you don’t see any blank areas at the edges of the set. Check the Vegas help on safe areas for more info.

You can turn off the safe area indicators by clicking the grid button on the preview window toolbar.

The dotted lines are the Action safe area and Title safe area markings for titles, graphics, etc.
Video within this safe area will always be visible on a television monitor.
Turn it on or off by clicking the # symbol at the top of the Preview window.

“Also, how do I change my layout?”

If you mean changing the positions of the various tabs, click on a name and drag it to the desired location.
If there are ones you do or don’t want to see, turn them on or off in the View menu.
