Video output to external monitor – FCP and AE
I am currently using a DVI to HDMI cable to output an HD video image to a Panasonic HD LCD using the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview from Final Cut and it all works fine. My question is, how do I get this same functionality from After Effects CS4? Though Digital Cinema Desktop Preview is an option in the AE Video Preview preferences it does not work at all consistently (I understand that it only appears because FCP is installed and not because Adobe supports it). Would using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card give me what I want? I understand that a Matrox MXO2 Mini would do the trick, but I am just a hobbyist and don’t really need the critical color correction capabilities of that box and would rather save some money.
Also, would either the Intensity or MXO2 allow me to use the Panasonic TV as an extended desktop monitor as my current configuration does?
I’m going to cross-post this in the Blackmagic forum also for best exposure.

If you have an NTSC/PAL monitor that takes an HDMI input, then the BMD Intensity card is a good, inexpensive way to go. It will support AE previews to the best of my knowledge.
