Hi. I am relatively new to the world of video-editing, and Final Cut Pro in particular. However, due to the very helpful tutorials etc I have come across, I am at least starting to tread water!

One thing that I have read is that an additional video monitor is needed if the picture quality, colour etc is to be as accurate as possible. This is where my understanding ceases. There have been numerous suggestions as to how this can be done, CRT video monitor, LCD video monitor, using the video camera to connect from the Mac to a TV monitor, buying a monitor such as Apple Cinema Display etc

I am unsure as to what my next step should be. Admittedly budget considerations will play a part in the final decision, but I want to ensure that my purchase is the right one. Can anyone advise as to the best move to make, and what make/model they would recommend?

    Many thanks.

An NTSC monitor like my Sony Trinitron (13-inch) works great for me.

You can find many used NTSC monitors on eBay for decent prices.
That’s where I bought mine and I haven’t had any concerns since.

One avenue worth pursuing for most inexpensive solution is the Matrox MXO:

With an Apple 23″ Cinema HD display the MXO will take a computer video signal and convert it to a broadcast signal good enough for colour grading/monitoring. I’m pretty sure you can watch your 24p natively on the 23″ display (through the MXO) in real time as well.
