I am planning to buy an AJA Xena LHe card and I’d like to know if it’s possible to profile and calibrate my analogue Sony BVM CRT video monitor using the LHe card and a suitable spectrophotometer? I use Premiere Pro 2, Adobe After Effects Pro 7 and PhotoShop CS2 all running on WinXP SP2.

I very much like the look of the GretagMacbeth EyeOne Photo. Would I be able to use this to calibrate my Sony BVM video monitor?

(And on a slightly different note – is it possible to use a GretagMacbeth chart to calibrate video cameras?!)

    Many thanks,
    Jack

With video CRTs (as opposed to computer CRTs), I usually have a nearby television engineer calibrate them as I don’t have the knowledge to get inside and tweak all those adjustments…

You could use a probe and hand-adjust the face knobs to dial it in as close as possible, but I’m not sure how you would get the probe’s display information to the monitor…the probe needs to feed a signal to a display so it knows the exact values of the input to understand the differences present in the display’s output.

I’m purchasing a used monitor right after NAB…I’ll probably be going through some of this myself…
