Hi! So I went to the Anti-War Protest in DC this past Saturday to document the march and I’m now logging and capturing from my tapes.

I shot on a Canon GL-1, using mini-dv tapes. Everything sounds and looks ok on camera however after I capture the video and look at it on my G5, the video is choppy and my audio sounds really tinny. I don’t really know whats wrong,

I used 2 tapes, the first tape is the one with these problems, but the second tape (which was recorded the same exact way) has no problems, everything looks great. When I bring these problematic clips into the timeline, they require rendering to see, which I think is very strange.

I’d really hope that its just the way I’m capturing and would hate to have lost such great footage.
    Please advise, I need help!!

    Thanks for everything!

Look at the video information very carefully. There is obviously a difference between them if one needs rendering and one dosen’t. Are they both: DV NTSC/DVC Pro 720 X480 16 bit 48khz 3:2 If they vary in any way that could be your problem.

Yeah. It’s possible to shoot in 32 kHz, and that might explain your audio problem. You can change your sequence settings to match this frequency, fortunately.

[Kevin Monahan] “It’s possible to shoot in 32 kHz, and that might explain your audio problem.”

    Not so much.

32 kHz sampling does not sound “tinny”.

It basically sounds identical to 48 kHz except the high-end (theoretically) cuts off at 16 kHz instead of 24 kHz.

If anyone can find, hear and record any significant audio at a peace-march that’s above 16 kHz, there is a nice river-spanning structure I can sell them in NYC.

There is obviously something VERY wrong with the first tape.
(I’m betting on a MISS-THREAD during the recording in the camcorder.)
