    Hi there
    A weird one….
I normally work with PAL in our UK edit suites but am across in DC enjoying the fine hospitallity of our US studios and trying to get my head round a strange FCP issue over here…

We have some NTSC 4:3 8bit uncompressed footage which is being resized on a 16:9 anamorphic timeline with some pan and scan. The vidoe levels are too high so I’m legalizing them with the broadcast safe filter…. but once rendered the levels jump back up again!!
It only happens with the resized footage!
I could make a QT of the time line, reimport it, and drop the levels on it (which works), but some of the sequences are 3hrs long (!) and it will take forever…

Has anyone ever come across this bug and know of a workaround?

    It’s a 2x3GHz Intel with 4GB RAM, running FCP6.0.4.
(And yes we’ve trashed the preferences and rebuilt permissions).

    Thanks in advance

I have found the broadcast limiter does the same in PAL. I don’t use broadcast limit anymore, but the RGB Limiter. However, it is best to use the 3 way CC first to lower the peak whites and trim gamma. The RGB limiter is for me just a final safe for the odd spike I had missed.

It is also not fool proof but does seem to give you the same levels post render unlike the broadcast safe.
