Video jerky and out of sync in preview
I posted this to the wrong forum earlier…oops.
I have Vegas studio pro pack 9, Windows XP SP3, intel 3.2 ghz processor, and 4 gigs of ram. My problem is that when I dragged a video I made on the Flip ultra HD video camera to the sony studio’s video timeline, it is very jerky and out of time/sync with the audio track that accompanies it. My settings are the default settings when you create a new project.I did try different settings in the preview such as; draft, best etc. But it did not change the choppy, jerky motion of the video.
I searched for existing threads on this subject but didn’t find any that were specific to this problem.
I’m hoping it is just a setting.

Hi Harvey. I wish it were just a setting. Unfortunately, its because these inexpensive cameras use extreme compression to make the video as small as possible but that also makes it extremely difficult for computers to uncompress and play them. This is further complicated by fact that each camera maker uses a slightly different format for their video which makes it impossible for Vegas to optimize for all these differences. I don’t know of there are other consumer applications that handle these Flip formats any better than Vegas. You might want to ask the makers of Flip. There is nothing you can do to make it play back any smoother short of transcoding the video into a format that is easier to edit.

You will find that jerkiness and sync problems disappear when you render the video to an appropriate format (that is another subject). Be sure to use the “best” or high quality setting for the render. Jerkiness and synch problems mean your computer is not fast enough for Vegas to play it in real time.

Wow, that is bad news for me.
I guess I’ll have to try and find an inexpensive HD camcorder if they exist. Thank you for letting me know. I do appreciate the information, at least I’m not sitting at the computer spending hours on something that just won’t work.Thanks,

I’m trying to create a project that is a music video, so there is a need to be able to sync audio to video. I wonder if I could render the video to a proper format and then continue working with it and edit it in its new format? I’m guessing there is some loss since it will be rendered twice in this example. Thank you for the reply and the information.
