Video in Sony Vegas Pro 12 Horribly Choppy/Distorted in Preview AND Render!
Hello All,
I just joined this forum and am an avid video-editing enthusiast.
I make several videos to share on YouTube and they are mostly gaming videos (PC gaming).
Recently, I’m having a serious issue where videos that are imported into Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 appear horribly distorted/damaged at certain intervals but play perfectly fine in VLC, Windows Media Player Classic etc.
The videos themselves seem to be absolutely perfect (2560×1600 @ 30FPS) but once they are imported into Vegas for editing, they seem completely useless (see pics below for comparison).

Please help me fix this issue as I need to be able to edit and render the videos on a regular basis for a couple of YouTube channels.

This issue is coming from the video format of where and how you
acquire these gaming videos in the first place.
Most of the video files acquired from tools used to record video
games are not edit friendly. They will playback nicely yes, But
if you try to edit them in an NLE, there may be issues like what

Thanks for the response.
I am recording these videos with DxTory using the x264 codec and at a resolution of 2560×1600 @ 30 FPS.
The odd thing is, though, that certain games like Battlefield 3 and Metro Last Light work wonderfully well in Vegas and Premiere Pro.
All the videos are recorded using the SAME settings in DxTory and “built” as AVI files.
There’s got to be some setting or something that should make it work(?). How come certain videos work fine and others don’t? It just seems so weird.
Really need help with this.

I figured it was DxTory, You are gonna get mixed results, some
will be ok and some wont. Sorry i dont have a solid solution to
offer you….. But could you record it at a lower resolution than
2560×1600 and see if that helps.Steve Rhoden

+1 on what Steve said. Lower the resolution. With that resolution the video contains too much ‘stuff’ and your hardware can’t handle it. No reason to have the resolution that high. I bet if you try it at 1920 x 1080 it’ll be MUCH smoother!

Even 720p would be good enough.
