It might very well be that you have “FX Bypassed” selected in the preview window.

There is a little icon with a circle in it in the preview window – this should be unselected to preview the fx as you want to view them in the preview window.

You can also preview in split screen mode using the drop-down menu from the same icon whereby one half of the screen is fx applied and the other not
