I have tried everything I can think of. I have ripped some footage from a DVD, and put it in 8.0. It is showing as a .avi, but when I try to put the clip in the trimmer or timeline, there is no video. The audio is there, but the video just says “media offline”. Is there a conversion problem? codec? Import? I don’t know, but any help would be appreciated.

File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc always works for me.
This options works on full size discs as well as the miniDVD discs for which it was originally intended.
Note that this feature will not work with copyrighted discs.

AVI is just a wrapper and the codec may be something that’s not being read by Vegas. There is a free download called G-Spot that will sniff thru the AVI and tell you the COdec that it actually is. Install the proper codec and you’re all set.
Of course Mikes way works just fine as well and is even simpler.
