    Hi,

I’m a video producer at a nonprofit, and I get a lot of requests from colleagues to edit their Zoom webinars. Typical requests include deleting the start portion when they’re waiting for people to join, cutting out a portion where there were brief technical difficulties, or adding a title slide such as a jpeg version of a Powerpoint cover they were using. So very basic video editing, that laypeople could likely do themselves, if I could recommend an appropriate tool. For video editing, most of my experience is with Premiere Pro or Final Cut, but I know there are other, simpler tools out there and perhaps even free tools, particularly for editing webinars and the kind of simple tasks I mentioned?

I’d be grateful for any suggestions. These webinar-related requests start to add up, taking away from other projects on my plate, and I’d like to empower colleagues as well.

    Thanks, Neil

in looking for a solution here, one option I came across is Wondershare Filmora.

    https://filmora.wondershare.net/filmora-video-editor.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwhNWZBhB_EiwAPzlhNpHVKzfzYrTruaWL9TkANgE85wETimBlzH5M0nrHps6L8Lrnsymp2hoC_o4QAvD_BwE

So I’d be interested, too, if anyone has used that, and has any feedback?

    Thanks a lot, Neil

Video editing tools 4 laypeople to edit Zoom webinars such as:

    1. iMovie – A free video editing software available on Mac computers that is easy to use for beginners. It recommends iMovie for beginners who are new to video editing.
    2. Windows Movie Maker – A free video editing software available on Windows computers that is easy to use for beginners.
    3. Adobe Premiere Elements – A more advanced video editing software that is still accessible for beginners. It offers more features than iMovie or Windows Movie Maker but requires a paid subscription.
    4. Filmora – A user-friendly video editing software that has a lot of features for a reasonable price. It’s a great option for those who want to create more complex videos.
    5. Shotcut – A free, open-source video editing software that offers a lot of features, but may take some time to learn for beginners.
    6. DaVinci Resolve – A professional video editing software with a free version that offers a lot of advanced features, but may be overwhelming for beginners.
    7. Kapwing – A free online video editor that offers basic video editing features and is very easy to use. It’s a great option for those who don’t want to download software onto their computer.
    8. Zoom Video Editor – Zoom offers a basic video editing feature built into its platform. This is a good option for those who want to do simple edits like trimming the beginning or end of a video.

What do people think of Canva for very basic video editing needs, for (video) beginners? Since posting my original question here, I discovered that my employer has a Canva account, so I tested the video editor. But it wouldn’t let me upload a clip larger than 1 GB in size, although when I googled this question, it said it can handle up to 5. Again our main need, which I’m finally returning to researching, is empowering laypeople at my employer to do basic video editing tasks, like removing unwanted portions from Zoom recordings, or perhaps editing out the start or end of a self-taped video recording they make on their phone. My colleagues mainly use Canva for other needs, like cropping photos and the like, but I wondered if anyone has used Canva for video, when I saw it has a video editor function included. Also a belated thanks Patricia for this helpful list of options! This is great, and that’s good to know Zoom has a video editor included too, which I’ll try out as well.

    Hey Neil,

I have never worked on CANVA, but if you get it included then it is a good place to start + many Social Media Corporate Content creators uses that package over that of the bigger packages from Adobe and others.

However, if you read the fine print, your account will allow you to store 5 GB of files, but when it comes to video, sorry:

    Videos

    • MOV, GIF, MP4, MPEG, MKV, or WEBM file format
    • Less than 1GB in size: Canva Free users will be asked to compress the file if it’s between 250MB to 1GB

Question is when you are still only doing edits in Zoom calls, then unless it is an all-day call, it is difficult to push that file over 1 GB?

Although I would still encourage you to have something bigger and meaner that can handle 4K out of HD-SLR and/or small pro-sumer (consumer) video cameras.
Also, consider using a software that can access your files locally, as opposed to doing large up/down-loads.

If for charity, you can get good rates on Adobe (which your graphics person might already have, including Premiere Pro – it normally allows you to install on 2 different machines).
There is also Resolve, which is free and so forth with other packages.
You mention Zoom editor, which I suspect limits you to Zoom recordings. YouTube also have a very basic editor, question with that is whether you are allowed to upload content to third party platforms?

Question is whether your employer is best served getting you to learn to use video editing software, or find a professional who will work at a reduced rate (I do that for my charity clients that are not in a rush – not pitching to you, just offering options).
