Video Copilot Shockwave Tutorial
Hello. I have only been using after effects for a couple months now and am trying to figure out how to make the shockwave from the video coplilot tutorial. https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/shockwaves/#commentshttps://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/shockwaves/#comments
Its fairly simple to follow along with. And my shockwave looks really good. Until I place it on another video and realize there is a black ring before and after my shockwave go’s off.
I can’t figure out how to remove that black ring. I know it can be figured within the first eight minutes of the tutorial because anything after that is just making duplicates of the original layer and then creating a .mov file of the layer and using that to dial in all of the details.
Basically in the first eight minutes though all you do is
1. create a solid layer
2. place a fractal noise effect
3. use a rectangle mask that go’s across the comp horizontally then slowly drops down and fades out while the changing a few of the fractal noise animations to make it look like its moving around.
4. and finally you use a polar coordinates effect on an adjustment layer to make the shockwave round.
I have done the tutorial twice now and can’t figure out what i missed that leaves a black ring around mine and not the instructors. I know that there isn’t supposed to be a black ring because he uses this shockwave in another video with a gun.
Any suggestions? I can add screen shots if I didn’t explain well enough.
Thank you!
