Video conversion and editing issues!
Here is the deal. I’ve been using El Gato game capture HD software to record gameplay videos and upload to youtube. A few days ago, I came across some errors.
1. Usually the videos I capture are first saved as MPEG-2 TS video , and then automatically converted to MP4. However, only one video file actually converted to MP4. The other didn’t and stayed as MPEG-2 TS video.
The one that was converted to MP4 will not stay long on Sony Vegas Pro 12. It is a 3.66 GB MP4 file, and it is 46-47 minutes. . If I try to edit the file or play it on Vegas, Vegas freezes on me and quits.
2.So I tried opening up the MPEG-2 TS video up on Vegas, and while I see the video, the audio does not play on Sony Vegas Pro 12. At all. In fact, in Vegas 12 there is no audio when i open it. Even though im able to open up the TS file on Windows media player or VLC, and able to hear it without trouble. The MPEG-2 TS video was 47 minutes long, 3.90 GB. The Data Rate was: 11,462 Kbps. The total bitrate was : 11,718 kbps
Infact, this goes for MPEG-2 TS videos in general. Wont see or hear the audio at all on Vegas 12.
3. So I tried using both Freemake and Handbreak to convert the MPEg-2 TS video files to MP4 or WMV. For Freemake when I converted them to MP4 or WMV, the file came out messed up. Meaning that the video itself became slower, and the audio stopped mid way. So there would be no audio for a good half of the video.

Possible suspicion: Part of the reason why I think it might be messing up (at least the converted MP4 files) is because the file might be…too big. They were 46-47 minutes after all. I did a little experiment with Handbreak only, and stopped the video conversion much sooner. I changed the “constant frame rate” to variable frame rate. The video still came out, but the MP4 file played perfectly, with lower video quality than expected. But again, the point is that the audio didn’t stop, or the video wasn’t lagging. This video was 10 minutes only.
HELP
So I guess I have to ask.. What can I do? How can I open MPEG-2 TS videos on Vegas, with the audio intact? Why am I able to hear the audio on VLC player or WMV only?What are the real issues, and what are my solutions?

You should not be converting these to MP4 or WMV. Those are two horrible formats for editing. Try converting them to Motion-JPEG (M-JPEG) video with PCM (uncompressed) audio. This will edit smoothly in Vegas. See if AviDemux 2.5 works with your files:
