Hi … can anybody suggest the easiest way to do this:

    1. import 6 second video clip into AE
    2. split layer into three separate layers each 2 seconds long
    3. have the three layers run across the screen in panorama fashion, one after the other … but where you see the edges of the layers passing also ..

i have a conceptual problem trying this … i line up the three clips on the canvas and pull them across the screen with the cursor and it works fine … but i discover that if 1 set keyframe 1 at 00:00, and each layer is only 2 sec, I can’t set a keyframe at more than 2 seconds … i thought that i could treat the video clips as graphic elements without worrying about the duration of the clip …

thanks in advance for any help

Maybe you should reinterpret the clips, setting them to loop?

    File>interpret footage>main.

Maybe you could slow the whole 6 second clip down with Time Remapping then split it up.

thanks Steve, but there is a hitch … i am starting with a (for example) 12 second clip … then, in the timeline splitting the layer into various parts … is there a way to loop layers? i would like to avoid having to break up clips before bringing them into the comp

If I were doing this I’d create 3 comps each the length of the final composition and drop into each of the 3, one of the 2 seconds you want.

You then want them to loop right? I’d just drop in the split layers again and again until you’ve filled up your timeline.

Then finally, I’d use those 3 comps in the main composition instead of the original video.

    Hope that makes sense
