I’m not sure if this is the proper thread or not but here goes.

I have a Mac Pro Tower 2×2.666 ghz dual core intel xeon.

    8 gb 667 mhz ddr2 fb-dimm memory.

    500 Gb hard drive.

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT: 1680x 1050@60 hz 32 bit color. Just the standard card that ships with the tower.

Ok now that you guys have the basic info here’s what I’d like to do.

My machine runs all apps great FCP studio etc.. I happy with its output and speed {rendering etc..} What I’d like is to upgrade my video card and be able to see the output of my timeline on a HD monitor.

I have been using 2 dell HD monitors to cut on but no output monitor. I have been getting away with this setup while doing small projects but I’m about to do higher end stuff and I’d like to step up my system with my tax return. LOL

My Video card only has 2 outputs both being used to supply my CPU monitors. I want to say they are dvi outputs but without disconnecting the monitors I can’t say for sure.

I want to upgrade the Video card and and both memory and drive space but my biggest issue is having a nice output monitor for QC purposes.

Any suggestions? Cards to accomplish this ?

I currently ingest Via fire wire of my different cameras or DVD, FTP etc…

I would like to do this as economically as possible but I don’t want to buy cheap crap either.

I would appreciate any feed back thanks.

You are confusing video monitors and computer graphic displays. They are not the same. You need a video I/O card, not a computer graphic card. Kona LHe is what you need to look at.

    hey,
if your wanting to view to a ntsc monitor, depending on your budget there are several options. AJA, Black Magic, Matrox they all make solutions for what you are looking to do.

    Thank you David

I was confusing video monitors and computer graphic displays. I thought a video card did both. I’m not sure if I can go the Kona LHe route but at least I know what to look for now.

    Thanks for the help Kent.

I’m trying to view the output of my record side or the play out of my timeline. I would like to connect it to and HD monitor {flat screen} just to see what it would look like if it were on air.

I don’t know if the new HD monitors are considered ntsc monitors or not. I assume they are. I’ve got approx. 2-3 thousand for upgrading my rig. {Monitor about 19-20’s size 16×9 capable, 1tb of space for Hard drive and a better Video card, upgrade ram from 8 gb to about 12 or so. That’s what I’d like to do.

I don’t have a great deal of budget but I will look into the recommendations you made. {AJA, Black Magic, Matrox}.

Thanks for your time and help.

Check the Blackmagic Intensity card. It’s cheap.
