Does the video card come into use during video capturing in Vegas?

    Thanks

[Dave Petteruto] “Does the video card come into use during video capturing in Vegas?”

Not unless you purchased a video card that captures like the Quadro SDI Capture. Otherwise, no… capture cards are usually separate from video cards. (Actually, that’s not a video card that captures but rather a capture card that links directly to your video card)

What kind of capture are you doing?

The reason I am asking is this–About a month ago my editing computer started freezing whenever I played a video file in any of my video viewing software (quicktime, windows media player & a Nero player)also freezez using Blufftitler (which uses video card). I can put the video on the Vegas timeline and view it with no problems. Because of this I was thinking I was having problems with the video card. Now today I am trying to capture some video via firewire using Vegas 7 and 9 (which I do all the time) and it is freezing up at randow times (after several attempts). So I was wondering if it could be video card related.

    Thanks

Well… if you have the video preview on then I guess it’s using the video card to display the frames it’s capturing. Try turning off the video preview and see if it helps.

Thanks John, I’m trying a capture without the preview on right now. We will see what happens.

    Thanks

Disabling the preview seemed to solve the freezup problem during capture. Thanks John. Now I need to figure out whats wrong with this damn computer!

    Thanks

You’re welcome. Yea, you should not be having problems like that but I’m glad that solved it for you for now.
