    Greetings guys,

I can’t seem to capture analog video from my Sony Media Converter through firewire.
In Vegas 10 I go to preferences/video/”use external video capture application” is unchecked like the help section said.

Then I go to Capture Video from FIle Menu
    Capture Preferences/Device/IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS Device.

All I get is device not available

I have an old S-VHS Camcorder hooked up to my Media Converter
Thing is, I can preview & capture though my HP Media Smart program.

Any ideas? I’m on windows 7/64-bit HP elite system
    thanks

[Stephen Mills] “I go to preferences/video/”use external video capture application” is unchecked like the help section said.”

I’m not sure what you were reading in the help but you want the external capture for SD DV capture. I’m not familiar with the Sony Media Converter but a quick Google search leads me to believe it’s a Analog to DV capture device. If so, you want to use VidCap (the external capture tool)

This also leads me to believe you want to capture SD DV via VidCap. The tool you’re using in Vegas (i.e., Capture Preferences/Device/IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS Device.) is for HD capture only

thanks for the info, I got it to work.
however I get a message telling me it won’t allow me to preview while it captures. Would that have anything to do with having dual monitors (or windows secondary display) under devices in preferences?
    almost there! thanks

[Stephen Mills] “however I get a message telling me it won’t allow me to preview while it captures.”

I’m not sure why it won’t preview while capturing. That works fine for me and I have dual displays. Maybe it has something to do with display drivers? I believe preview uses some sort of video overlay.
