    Hi everyone.

I have a quick question. I would like to know if it is possible to beatmatch video? I’m a dj and I’m trying to learn how to use vegas to make my video mixes (so I can avoid using my DVJ turntables) but I don’t know if beatmatching is possible with video. Any help will be greatly appreciated it.

    Thank you

Yes, there is software that can do this.

One of them is Trapcode Soundbeach from Red Giant. But this isa plug-in for After Effects.

Another plugin that does something similar is Beatreactor from Boris FX. But again, this plugin will only work in After Effects.

I haven’t seen yet anything like this for Sony Vegas.

Yes, you can beatmatch in Vegas. There are two thing you need to do:

    1. Go to the Project Properties (Alt+Enter) and on the Ruler tab change the Beats per minute to the beat you want the videos to map to (check the time signature too).
    2. Go to Options | Preferences | Audio and enable the checkbox Import audio at project tempo

Now all audio will be imported at the BPM of the project. I’ve never tried this with video audio. If it doesn’t work you may have to bring the video and audio in separately and stretch the video to match the audio. You might also have to use Sound Forge to add a time signature to the audio. To do this in Sound Forge Pro 10:

    1. Use File | Open to load your video into Sound Forge
    2. Go to View | Metadata | ACID Properties (Ctrl+Alt+M,3)
    3. Change the ACID type from One-Shot to ACID Beatmapped
    4. Change the Tempo to to BPM of the music in the video.
    5. Set the Downbeat to the start of the first beat from the beginning of the file
    6. Save the video.

Let us know how this works out. Like I said, I’ve never tried it for video but it should work.
