  • Video appears shrunken / with huge black boarder in the canvas in FCP

    Hi,

i have shot and imported a tape using a sony HDR-HC1 to FCP. The tape was shot in DV (not HDV) and the capture setting used to import was DV-PAL from easy setups.
It is in widescreen in the viewer and appears completely normal – audio in sync, no distortion etc. The viewer and canvas both have ‘titlesafe’ and ‘fit to window’ selected. In the viewer the clip fits to the titlesafe perfectly.

The problem is that when I drop a clip onto the timeline it shows up in the canvas with a large black boarder around it as if it has been shrunken to approximatly a quarter of its original size. It is possible to for me to invidually enlarge each clip in the canvas to fit to the titlesafe boarders but this seems an unneccesariy laborious way of getting round a more simple mistake I have probably made.
    – Any suggestions on what that might be and/or how to remedy it would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Nate
