VGA external monitor suddenly stretched resolution correct resolution not an option
I’m on a 15″ MacBook Pro on 10.6.8. For years I’ve had a Gateway 19″ 1440×900 monitor hooked up via VGA adapter. It always looked great. But for the last 6 months or so I haven’t been able to make it properly display 1440×900. Instead it is stretched, even in an HD 16×9 resolution.
This whole thing started when I downloaded some RED software to look at a clip. After the install and restart the external monitor resolution changed and doesn’t show 1440×900 as an option. I searched the computer and manually deleted RED anything and everything I could find. No change in resolution. I downloaded an uninstaller from RED but it doesn’t find anything.
I’ve tried SwitchResX but it doesn’t seem to work. None of the custom resolutions appear in the System Preferences resolution list.
This is driving me crazy. There is no longer a 1440×900 option and every resolution stretches the display images. Even the Gateway monitor keeps prompting me that I’m not outputting the right display for the monitor. The crazy/frustrating part is, if I try to take a screen shot of that VGA display – the screen shot is not stretched and shows the display correctly! So what I’m outputting as 1400×1050 should be okay but it’s not!
Here are some images of what I’m dealing with. I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me fix this issue.
There isn’t any option to stretch the image on the external monitor’s menu.
