Very, very strange…
I added my GeForce 650M to the list of Nvidia cards on my retina mbp, but I couldn’t get ray tracing to work, no matter what. When I went home, I tried all the steps again and it worked. Went to work the next day, started AE and no dice. Then I realized that, in addition my name as a user in the terminal window, there was the name of someone I don’t know, ie “user-john doe/my name”. Maybe it was a guy in the next office “sharing” our wireless…I don’t know. When I’m home it’s only my name in the terminal and AE recognizes the card. Does this make any sense to anyone? Can multiple users on the same wireless effect an application this way?

I don’t know the solution to this, but you most certainly want to make sure that you or your IT person, secure things. Here’s a good walkthrough of how to do it:

I’m with you Jason. I’m the IT person in my office, plus the animator, editor, dishwasher, and dog walker. It’s not rocket science – you just need to write everything down as you do it, so that if you ever need to secure a network again you’ll have a roadmap. You may also find that you’re internet service provider has a very specific tutorial on your wireless hub, if that’s what you use. I have TDS, and their website gives very specific info on how to secure the network.
