Hi, I am trying to drag a SD clip into a new Premiere timeline.
When it appears in the timeline, the video track is doubled and there is one audio track.
I can’t delete one of the video tracks, and the audio does not play in the timeline,, though it does play in the viewer.
    Suggestions?

It is just an SD NTSC Prores422 clip from a miniDV original from around 1997.

Actually, no, it was a BetaSP dub (of the original DV tape which was lost) that was digitized to prores. The specs look like this when I open it in QT Player:

How do the tracks look? Identical?
It is very well possible the clip has a thumbnail baked in, and that is displayed as a track, but omitted in playback.
There are two mono audio tracks, but they probably belong to the ‘good’ video.

You could use FFmpeg to strip the second track, or perhaps turn off one of the tracks in QT7 pro.
(Or delete it, and do a ‘save as’ to flatten it without the track.)

If it plays in the viewer, it can be rescued without any quality loss.
