Vegas XDCAM to DVD render framesize issues
Hello everyone,
I’ve been dealing with an issue of converting XDCAM footage to widescreen M2Vs regarding the framesize issue. I start with a HD 1080-60i project and XDCAM 50Mbps 422 footage and then render as to the “DVD Architect 16:9 Preset” M2V (with upper field selected due to the HD source).
The problem I’m having is that I am being forced to select “Stretch video to fill output frame size”, otherwise I get small black frame bars to the left and right of the video. I do not like selecting stretch, as I have to then deinterlace the video (since it is resizing the fields), in which I get a quality drop. Also, the “stretch” option does not seem to stick in Vegas Network Render.
Anyone else experience this, or know what I might be doing wrong? Thank you very much 🙂

This is because DVD 16:9 has an aspect ratio of 1.8181 while HD is 1.7777
Vegas Pro 9.0 or newer has “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” option that will correct this issue, otherwise you have to manually crop your footage -
One solution is to drop your HD project into an SD Widescreen project and then apply a crop to the event that’s created to Match Output Aspect. This will crop your video instead of stretching it.
BTW, you don’t have to deinterlace anything to use stretch, it is stretching the pixels and not affecting the fields.

Awesome, I did not think to use that setting in properties, that worked excellently. It also fixes the issue in the network rendering. Thank you! 🙂
