Vegas Video or Vegas Movie + DVD Ripping
I have videos that I have created myself from home video clips. I used another product to create them and burn them to DVD. I do not have the original Mini DV tapes nor the AVI files used to create the DVD’s.
Question? Can I use the Vegas products to capture or edit the DVD’s again? Can I rip them?
I know that Pinnacle 9 can do this as long as they are not DESS encrypted or commercial DVD’s?Any ideas on what I can do? I know it is my fault for tapping over precious memories.

Do a search here about VOB files. You may copy the VOB files to your hard drive, then drag them on to the Vegas timeline. If your DVD has AC3 audio, then you have much more work ahead.

Well, not too much work really. There are numerous utilities available that can convert AC-3 to WAV, so simply converting the audio from the DVD will allow you to work with it on the timeline as with any other WAV file. However, as AC-3 is a lossy codec, you’re already starting with a compressed source, so while you didn’t lose any quality in converting to WAV, if you export to any other lossy format, you’ll lose even more quality.

Thanks for the tips. Too bad Sony does not allow this for legitimate use.
