    Hi,
I need to transfer a pretty big HDV project from Vegas (not sure which version it is) to FCP6 – I would prefer not to have to recapture the project, and from what i’ve read it seems like I can export an edl to excel, clean it up, then import into fcp (not like i really know how to do that…) but what about the media files? Has anyone had a successful experience with a vegas to fcp project transfer?

the only reason this project was edited with vegas was because it was shot on a jvc hdv 110 which would not work with fcp – the capture was giving us constant, random tc drops – but vegas worked just fine, except that we would prefer to continue to work on the project in fcp. i’ve read about the Cineform lossess codec and was thinking about transferring all our material to that and then re-import into fcp based on the edl, but since i don’t have much experience with edl’s, i have no idea if this is at all feasible.

    help, anybody?

I’ve been keeping an eye on this post to see if anyone responds, because frankly I’d like to know also.

On occasion I’ve had to take 1440×1080 hdv avi files recorded on an external Sony firewire drive from Vegas to FCP, but the files are made by the recorder itself, not Vegas. Regardless I suppose you could export from Vegas, or perhaps just take the avi’s that Vegas captured and bring them over to the Mac. I then use a program called Streamclip (https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html) to convert the files for FCP to import. I don’t imagine that preserves the built-in timecode of the files but it’s free so you can give it a whirl if you’re out of ideas.

Export as .mxf (XDCAM HD) and it’ll cross read perfectly.

Does exporting as .mxf preserve the timecode? Would I then be able to import the edl into fcp and re-connect the media?
