After doing a remote session, we found the culprit to be AC3. I don’t believe it was registered. Jeff is attempting to contact Sony to get it registered on his system. Once we took the audio away or changed the audio to pcm, all was well and there were no hangs.

    Bad news continues

Sony had me registered but confirmed that no separate registration was necessary for AC-3.

They had me remove all Vegas/Arch related programs from the registry and do a full re-install.

Programs contine to lock up. I don’t know what else to try other than create projects with Vegas on my office pc and then use DVD Architect on my basement pc, installing Blu-Ray there.

    Thoughts?

I believe the ac3 reg is tied to DVD Architect’s serial. But if you have installed it and activated it, all should be well.

Did you call Sony? I would be curious as to know what they said seeing how the issue was narrowed down to AC3. As long as AC3 was not used, then all was well. AC3 is a separate license that Sony includes with DVDA.

Does all work well on your basement pc?

My basement pc, which is custom-built 2 yrs ago from Aeoncraft, successfully burned my first BD-R!

There are 4 differences between my Aeoncraft pc and my new HP:

    1)Aeoncraft: 32bit; HP:64bit

2)Aeoncraft: wired mouse; HP: wireless mouse

    3)Aeoncraft:custom-built; HP: full of bloatware

4)Aeoncraft:Installed bundled dvd software with Blu-Ray burner
HP: did not install the bundle

So I eliminated 2 of 4. I installed a wired mouse because of slight lagging and uninstalled the bundle. HP still locked up when clicking “Make DVD”

I am going to do two more things and then I can move on.
1)Build and render a project using the HP, transfer it the Aeoncraft, build the dvd menu and burn to Blu-Ray.

2)again contact Sony Creative Support about this issue

    3) I am also open to a dual 32/64bit environment, I just don’t know how to do it.

Thanks again J Res for your unselfish help.

I am having the same problem without resolution yet from Sony even after following all their advice.
My brand new HP PC Vista 64 locks up completely when “Make DVD” button is pressed in DVD Architect 5.0. It makes no difference whether you have a project loaded or not. Or whether you uncheck “scan database etc “.
Conversely, both Vegas Pro 8.0c and DA 5.0b work flawlessly in my old Windows Xp 32 SP2 albeit slow.

So, don’t feel bad, you have a lot of company for similar problems here and in other forums.

Hope you find the solution, share it so we get back to creating.

Updating the subject problem, Sony Support acknowledges the general problem and has referred it to their experts as unresolved.

The issue is a colition or incompatibility between DA5 (and Veg8) and Vista 64 DVD drivers. Specifically in my case, DA5 locks completely in Make DVD if I keep both built in PC DVD players enabled. However, if I disable the second built in DVD player, which is a Blueray player, then DA5 (and Veg8) both work as intended and do not lock up at all.

Perhaps this workaround may help others for now.
