I rendered a picture slideshow in sony vegas movie studio platinum 8 as an mpeg2 file using the NTSC DV Widescreen template. The templates video size is 720×480. When I view the movie I have black bars above and below the video due to the widescreen rendering. I am then taking that video and encoding it to a .flv file in Flash for a webpage.

My problem is that when I insert the video in Dreamweaver I still obviously have the black bars above and below because it is part of the video size even though the video is in widescreen format. I would like to produce a video file in a 16:9 aspect ratio without the black bars so that my flash video and player do not show the black bars above and below the video. How should I render the video to get such a result? Is there a way to crop the video in flash to only the region that has video in order to eliminate the black bars?

Thanks in advance for your help.

yes, you can crop the video in flash. When you import the video, one of the tabs is “crop and resize.”
However, I would render the video as a widescreen NTSC avi (progressive scan)file before importing into flash. You shouldn’t have any letterboxing by doing it this way.
