Vegas project file in FCP?
Posted by Bob Mark on May 8, 2009 at 12:40 amI don’t know of any way to do this, but a friend wanted to know if I could export a Vegas project file for use in FCP. Has anyone been able to do this? If I could do it, I would have more work from my FCP buddies. Thx.

May 8, 2009 at 12:48 pmYou can save your Vegas project as EDL and try to open this EDL in FCP.

May 8, 2009 at 12:54 pmIf (and it’s a big if) this will work, the usuall recommendation is that the timeline be very simple (i.e. cuts only and no FX) as anything else probably won’t transfer over.

May 8, 2009 at 1:06 pmNope! No can do.
We’ve tried EDL and MXF before. There’s been a few posts about this not long ago.
That’s why I had to get a MBP and originally Final Cut Express and between FCE-4.5 and FCP-5 we couldn’t even do it. My partner had to upgrade to FCP-6. Now we both got Studio 2. We each have a complete copy of the video and graphic files and just swap project files back and forth.
I do a lot of collaborting on my technical stuff with another fellow and we both have to have Final Cut. You can,. however render your project out to either AVI or MOV and send it to him that way.
So mow I’m on Vegas for some projects that don’t require collaborating and Studio 2 for those that do.
Sorry

I guess I will need to consider FCP. Thanks.Bob
