I am fairly new to Vegas Pro and am using version 11 at the moment.

I have done a project which is about 15 minutes long using footage from a Kodak Playsport camera. It’s nothing top complicated.

I was able to render the project a few times as I went through, but now its nearly done, it just won’t complete.

Mostof the time, it will just pause and the countdown will run, but it is just frozen. I have tried lots of render as settings. It doesn’t do this at a specific part iof the project. Sometimes it happens early on, other times near the end. It’s totally random.

My pc is an Intel i5 3570k with 8gb ram and SSD drives. I use onboard video.

Have tried disabling GPU acelleration and limiting the amount of RAM and CPU threads. Doesn’t help.

Watching memory use in task manager it shows memory use steadily climbing to 8gb in use and stay there. When it freezes memory use stays at 8gb but CPU UAE drops to 0.

    Any ideas?

If I try Vegas Pro 12 will I be able to open the same project file without problems?

Yes you can, without any worries.

Open the PC and see if you have any airways blocking or build up of dust and hair. I’m on a mission. Rendering stresses a PC. Maybe you’ve gotten to the point of near stress!

Please see the innards and report back.

The PC is only about a month old, so no dust. Cooling is good, I have a coolermast hyper 212+ on the cpu and nice case fans. The CPU doesn’t seem to get too hot.

Wondering what I should be focusing the render on for best quality from the Kodak .mov files (shot at 1080). For viewing on a PC for now, but once its finished I want to try and burn to a bluray.

Ok, so tonight I tried again. The PC had been off all day and it was cool in the house. Tried to set it off on a render straight after booting up, and it got to 62% and just stopped again. Once again, it was at a different place to the other times its locked up. The time remaining countdown carries on, but the preview is stuck on a particular frame. The rest of the PC is useable. You can cancel the render at that point, and it says render cancelled but its then locked up.

Kept an eye on the CPU temps and they were running around 30c and peaked at around 37c. Case temps also seemed fine and stable.

As I say, when it freezes, CPU use drops down to 0% but memory use is still up at 90%+ until you kill the application in task manager, then the memory is freed up.

    It’s mega frustrating.

Is it Vegas 12 you are now using and its behaving like that?

Still on 11 for now. 12 was last resort really.

I would encourage you to invest in a copy of Vegas 12.
Vegas 11 was a problematic version and will continue to be.

Well, after much reading and playing with things, I have find found a solution.

I had turned off GPU acceleration and tweaked the Dynanmic RAM Preview setting before, but I tried a few different variations.

Now, I have GPU off and Dynamic RAM at 150mb and its perfect. No freezes and seems to render in any format I ask! If I take it any higher (or lower) the freezes come back…..

At least I am sorted for now.

    Thanks all

Yes, but you CAN NOT go backwards. You CAN NOT open a Vegas 12 veg file on any prior version of Vegas. Save your Vegas 12 projects with a different name.
