Vegas Pro 8.1 freezing

I always found 8.0 32-bit to be more stable on my Vista 64 system. In any case, it’s definitely possible to install both 32- and 64-bit versions and if the 64-bit gives you a hard time, you can open the project up in the 32-bit. (Frankly, I’m doing that right now with v9-64, which is a lot more stable, but I’ve still run into issues that were most easily solved by popping back temporarily into the 32-bitter.)

What is your system spec? Have you maybe tried driver updates, the important ones would be bios,chipset,VGA and sound.
That would be a good start for diagnosing your feezing problem for using SV 64bit version. I would like to help you on this one. 🙂

It was working fine before and it still loads the project AND I even managed to cut it up into more than one project, but on each project as soon as it finishes loading, I can’t click on anything. This is my system:

Like you said it was working fine before, Maybe you should look at some application you have installed or you could have made a change somewhere on your system that could affect the running of Vegas.

I was editing the film and when I was adding some clips and music it just froze up and it won’t let me edit any of the material. I really have no idea what made it happen so I have no idea how to fix it.

Yeah, it does that… Vegas 8.1 is not too stable.

The point wasn’t so much working better on a 64-bit system, as releasing a native 64-bit version for us to play around with. One big advantage of a 64-bit system is access to more than 4GB of memory… but only if you have a native 64-bit application. A small advantage is that code can sometimes run a bit faster… though it can also run slower in other situations.

Anyway, the 32-bit version of Vegas 8 will work just dandy on a 64-bit system as well.

You may want both, anyway, but the first thing I’d do in your shoes is install the 32-bit version of Vegas 8, which is far more stable, and see how it does on your project.

One thing to consider.. when you install a 64-bit version of Vegas, you need to install other 64-bit stuff for it to play nicely with, such as plug-ins and CODECs. It’s quite possible some of the cool stuff you have for 32-bit Vegas won’t yet exist for 64-bit Vegas.

Vegas 9 comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, too. Overall I have found it a bit more stable than Vegas 8, and quite a bit moreso than Vegas 8.1.
