I’m considering returning the Panasonic SD5 and getting a Canon HV20 because AVCHD seems a bit of a pain to edit. Most NLEs can import it, but it can’t be smart rendered, and re-encoding is not a good option for me.

So my question is, when editing 1920×1080 HDV video in Vegas, does it recompress everything, or just the parts of the timeline that need recompressing due to effects, transitions and filters?

With m2t files, it smart renders.
