Vegas Pro 13 – Video rendering black half way through. Odd Case.

I didn’t think you were rude Bill, no problem, just wanted to explain it.

You should not have to restart your project. When you convert your source media files, give the covertered files the same name as the original source, just add either a prefix or suffix to make them unique, but so you have a reference as to what files should be used to replace the originals.

There are several ways to manage this, here is one……

Move the original source media files in your project to a different folder. Then place the converted files in the project folder. Now start Vegas and load your project. It is going to pop-up a window stating it cannot find the source media files and offer several alternatives. Do not select the first which is search to find, rather select the second down to replace. Then select the converted file that matches the file being prompted for. It will pop up again until you have selected a replacement for all the media files in you project.

The converted files should be the same length as the originals, so they should fit right into your project with all the cuts, trims, placement and Fx’s, as they were, now using the converted media. Hope I have explained that well enough to follow, but if you see a different way of moving and storing, it should work as long as Vegas cannot see the original files in the folder it is expecting, it will ask you and you can then go to anywhere you have the converted files. If I have been lucky you will easily follow my suggestion and the more I keep talking the more risk of making it confusing if I haven’t already done so.

As a safe guard, when you have all the converted media loaded, immediately save your project to a different name or incremental name. That way if the process didn’t work out, your previous project will not be harmed and you can go back to it.

Are these options right? The bit on the bottom is going all over the place FPS wise so I am worried.

I forgot, there is a replace option if you right click on the source media in the Project media bin, this may be a lot easier than the old fashion way I posted previously.

And, for others that may read this thread, in later versions of Vegas there is also a swap files feature, again right click on media in the Project Media bin.
