[Elvis Poldervaart] “when i do a fresh install of windows i always turn of as much as posibble with “personalize”, Aero peak was off..strange or not but some forums said that, turned it back on, and voila nomore screen tearing,”

Glad to see you’re making progress but, with all due respect, it sounds like you may be causing these problems yourself.

When people say that they did a “fresh install” of Windows we assume that they didn’t change anything. That’s kind of what “fresh” implies… i.e., unaltered, right out-of-the-box. etc.

When I perform a “fresh” install of Windows to see if something works, I take all of the defaults and I don’t mess with it. When I perform a fresh install of the video drivers I take all of the defaults and I don’t mess any driver settings. And when I perform a fresh install of Vegas Pro on that fresh install of Windows with fresh video drivers I take all of the defaults and I don’t mess with it… and you know what? It simply works!

You should probably stop tweaking things. It’s really not necessary but that’s up to you. Thanks for letting us know that the problems where cause by settings that you changed so that others are not afraid to purchase this card. It’s a great card for Vegas Pro and works extremely well for others.

with all due respect to, that all what you wrote is abit excessive,

First, i didn’t change any driver in windows, i only changed “personalize”,
its a routine’of mine and never was a problem before till the R9 290x,
second, tweaking windows is way something else, what i only did
is change the look of the desktop a bit, how terrible,
third, where did you read i changed all of the settings in
every thing you describe and tested not all default?
Because of a bit changing the settings of “personalize”?!
It simply doesn’t work if you read further and to say
i cause it myself well..that’s nonsense.

I agree your point about the “fresh install” however, that is good point.

Anyway, on to the subject, the card goes back tommorow as it is still
blinking/flashing/strobing in every program, again not because of my “tweaking” 🙂

I thought you said that you were changing V-sync settings in Vegas Pro and adaptive v sync on the radeon drivers. Maybe I read it wrong. I’ve never had to play with those to get things to work. Then again, it could just be bad hardware.

Yes…what am i supoused todo then if the problems are there
after everything is “default” and doesn’t work anyway,
i never had to play with those settings either,
past week was a world opening for me to…
VSYNC, Hz, FPS, Lag, screen tearing, flickering, Freesync, Psysx, etc.

But this is all pretty clear by now and not the point of this thread.
I just hope they test the GPU on same setup (2monitors in extended)
and a “windowed” program that uses a external preview monitor (fullscreen)
and that the techincal department have the “problem” to.

Have to wait a few days.

[Elvis Poldervaart] “and a “windowed” program that uses a external preview monitor (fullscreen)”

So… you’re not using the option to view on Secondary Display? You are moving your preview to the second monitor in a window?

Haha…no of-course not… with “external preview monitor” i mean the “secondary display”…all those terms is making me nuts/confusing,
and my lack of good English properly:)

OK got it. So this worked fine with your NVIDIA card but causes problems with your AMD card. I guess replacing the card to see if it’s bad is the next step. It does happen.

Yes…it’s under investigation right now at the shop, so hopefully
i get a new or other GPU, if they say the card is fine and just
return that GPU then i won’t order there ever again.

i just read something about MANTLE to:

    https://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/mantle#overview

maybe the problem lays there with the bad GPU acceleration,
Or it’s the standard GPU’s OC (overclocked) problem, to much power
consumption could be still i read to as my PSU is 3yrs old…

Oh well… have to wait till they call, just hope it’s bad GPU and
it is not after all my PSU or something i didn’t think of.

A few weeks ago I changed from Nvida to a AMD R9 280. ( Vegas Pro 12 not 13)It works great now and I am very very happy. I did have a bear of a time getting the drivers and catalyst control panel happy. Here is a kinda dumb idea. Before I got all the kinks out I noticed something odd. If I looked at my “Windows Experience” it wasn’t right. The numbers for video were low. You can click to update the evaluation and it runs a bunch of tests including the video card. Until I got the AMD installed properly it would crash or freeze when evaluating the card. I’m just saying this was an indication that even windows wasn’t happy with the install. One other thing. I noticed AMD attempted to download a New Catalyst package and drivers this week. I didn’t take it maybe you did. Or maybe you just got a Bad card.

    UPDATE:

I did may choose a other GPU or a replacement as they couldn’t
test the card for my specific problem (no software for it).

Anyway, almost went back to NVIDIA but it was no GPU acceleration in SVP13 because of Kepler/Maxwell chips or AMD again and no CUDA for After Effects,
i love and always will SVP so back to AMD, i have now a Sapphire Nitro 390 8GB because of they still have the Grenada/hawaii chip set for GPU acceleration.

I bought a new PSU to (corsair 1000w), bought HDMI/DVI-D/DP cables,
try’d every thinkable monitor setup (excluded even monitors and try’d HD TV’s).

Installed different drivers with and without Catalyst, just to be sure.
Changed BIOS settings (no OC, GEN 1/2/3 etc.).

And guess what…same thing, it is less in after effects but still flashing/flickering when choosing a media file, in SVP it still same
but what i noticed is that when i use external video monitor VIA the trimmer
(never used the trimmer) then its less to but still flashing/flickering both monitors after selecting/previewing several media/files…

    Well..shoot me…

PS: I did windows experience test..all good
