Hi all. First time post here, but I just upgraded to Vegas Pro 12 and have had a lot of problems. To start, immediately upon my first attempt to render, the program crashed, and continued to do so every time I tried. I saw a forum post suggesting that I should disable GPU support, and I did. Here’s the thing. I previously had Vegas Pro 11 and it worked 99.9% flawlessly – with graphic card support enabled. Now Vegas Pro 12 can’t use my video card? I have a Radeon HD 5700, and I’m not sure why the card worked fine with the old version while the new version can’t use it. Does anyone have a solution?

Have also noticed other issues – no .rm rendering capability (problem because, like it or not, I have customers who prefer that format) – doesn’t work well with legacy text effects (so all of my old projects have to be reworked) – here’s a fun one too; when renaming clips in the Vegas Pro 12 explorer window, if you type in a space in the clip name, the program doesn’t put a space where the cursor is, it plays the clip in the trimmer.

Needless to say I’m massively disappointed with the software from a company that previously had my highest level of confidence. Has anyone else had problems with Vegas Pro 12?

[Rob Thomson] “Has anyone else had problems with Vegas Pro 12?”

Not the ones you’ve listed. So far, with a few exceptions, VP12 feels as stable as VP9. I found VP11 and VP10, with the 32bit to 64bit transition, truly messy.

If you are working in a full 64bit environment, have got any 32bit only plugs?

Rob, your story is quite weird, because Vegas 12 is the stable
and rock solid version. An whats even weirder is you saying
Vegas 11 was almost perfect for you, when in fact that was the
buggiest and unstable version of Vegas ever.
From reading your issues, something is simply not right with
your system why you are having those kind of problems.

Had a couple of oddities, but partly operator error. I did replicate the renaming thing in Explorer though… what a strange one. Not a bother to me as I never use Vegas Explorer, but there are those who do and I agree it shouldn’t happen. Dob it in to Sony.
As with all complex software and the race between makers for our bucks there is sure to be oversights to say the least. You should try Adobe’s suite, my other job’s mainstay software. Boy, can it throw up some curly ones!
Damn frustrating though… whatever happened to pride in one’s product?

And from all the fan boys and excitement about Adobe, you would
swear Adobe’s products are perfect and flawless in every way.

Hi Graham, thanks for the response. As far as I know my system is 64 bit (Windows 7 Pro – Intel 2600k with 16GB of memory), but not sure how to check for 32 bit plugs. My graphics card has the latest drivers, and I’m not sure what else could be the problem with the new install.

Now I feel like the oddball since others had problems with Vegas Pro 11 and it worked great for me. Guess it’s part of the idiosyncracies of software as someone else mentioned.

Hi Steve, my system has been acting slightly buggy lately. I’ve tried reinstalling the software a couple of times, and it hasn’t helped. I’ll spend some more time on it in the next couple of days and see if I can get it tweaked. Just frustrating to go from a supposedly unstable version of the software that worked fine to a supposedly stable version that doesn’t work as its supposed to.

Hi Phil. I used to use the explorer window to rename my raw footage – it was nice to view the raw clips in the trimmer window to remember what they were and then just rename them in the explorer window right next to it. But suppose it’s just one of many ways to do it.

I did send in a support request to Sony. No word back yet. Until then, I suppose I’ll just have to try and work it out myself.

I’ve been using Vegas 12 with my GPU. I have the same issue recurring (during playback the preview window will go black or fully red and not recover). Turning off GPU acceleration for rendering works for some strange reason – or it seems to. This problem is intermittent. But for a program that was relatively recently released, I’m not yet nearly disappointed as I would have been had I upgraded to 11 and heard the complaints. Version 10 was rock, rock solid but that was without a GPU and any effects other than Sony’s and a deshaker on occasion.

I’ll report as I do much more work with Vegas than ever before but there are many variables that can come into play – hard drive corruption, bad sectors, hardware, etc. Unless the errors are able to be reproduced by others, one has to look at the hardware.

    Hey Rob,
Along those same lines, I just installed Vegas 12 a couple of weeks ago and everything was working fine until the Vegas Explorer window suddenly stopped showing files in any folders in my Windows 7 file tree. All of the folders and subfolders are there, but the Vegas Pro 12 Explorer window cannot show the files that are contained in any of those folders! These are files that I created in Vegas 12.

Could I have unchecked something that shows the content of folders, for I cannot find any reference to this problem in Help or online. Let me know for at this point, the only way I can find the audio files, video MTS or MOV clips, .veg files, Sound Forge takes, or the video logos I created is by going outside of Vegas to copy and paste them onto the timeline from Windows Explorer. Perhaps I am missing something here, but this sudden issue is really strange. Paul
