Vegas Pro 10e – Crash when Project longer than approx. 11 Min
Hey Guys,
as said in the Title all my Vegas Projects freezes when the Project is longer than about 11Min. This only happens when it reaches this length, but then it can happen anytime. F.e. when playing the project or when importing a new clip.
I first thought that it has to do sth. with some certain clips… but than I did a second Project and now I’m having the same Problem there.I already tried to play around a little bit with the RAM-Settings: Options->Preferences->Video->Dynamic RAM Preview.
I also tried to change the Max. Nr. of Renderingthreads… but no changes.My System should be able to handle such an Project-Size. (4GB RAM, 2,7GHz Dual Core)

Sounds to me like a heat or power supply problem.
Install CoreTemp (it’s free) and see what it says while your computer is chugging along.

Hey Mike,
thanks for you response. I tried the programm but the values are pretty normal. Max. Temp of the Processors is about 55Grad which isn’t really high.I just got for the first time the message that Vegas has encountered a problem and I will be notified when there are some news regarding this. (This message appeared after vegas freezed once again).
Is there any debug-file where I can get details towards the problem? -
What format are your source files? What codec do they use?

I am using VOBs (I had to take them directly from the mini-disc of the camera because I’ve lost the DV-Cable).
I simply enamed them to mpegs. (Codec is also mpeg) -
How much hard free disk do you have? Are you encoding (render as) to a separate drive?

No I am using my internal HDD, there are about 50GB free on each partition. (I reinstalled windows just about 2 Weeks ago).

Only one hard-disk?
Two Partitions are not the same as two drives.Partitioning is an anachronism that became necessary when hard-disk size was more than DOS could address and the only way to use any hard-disk over 30Gb was with partitioning.
Today there are only a few valid reasons for partitions:
1) Hosting more than one O/S where each O/S needs its own Boot Partition
2) A Recovery Partition
3) To keep the O/S in a small partition – it’s getting difficult to buy a PC with anything smaller than a 1TB boot disk, and Windows 7 needs no more than 100GB including a lot of installed applications.
4) With 3Tb disk drives becoming available, we’ve come full-circle and have hard-disk drives larger than NTFS can address.Performance-wise, a separate partition is physically the same as a single disk drive. No advantage whatever.
Are your partitions formatted using NTFS or FAT-32? If it’s FAT-32 then there’s your problem. You ran into the FAT-32 file size limitation. If it’s NTFS then we need to keep looking.
Also – ANY project over 11-minutes or just this one?

The proper way to do this is to use File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc… Renaming VOB files is most likely not your problem, but they are different from MPEG files (even though renaming does “trick” Vegas into reading them).

Yes i own only one harddisk.
And I am using 2 partitions because I am doing a seperation between Win7 + all other installed Software and my personal data.Yes i do have NTFS formatted partitions. And the problem occurs on both of my projects. After the first project reached about 10-11min, i simply created a new one which is the continuation of the first project. And now the second project also reached this size and starts freezing. Meanwhile I do not know what’s the reason I created a third project… so that I can keep on working. (The whole film is going to be around 25-30mins, which equals 3 Parts with the 10min – limitation)
